Wild Harvested Maca is a product of Global Fair Traders, a group dedicated to practicing fair trade in all its business relationships. We scour the planet for rare and remarable natural food products, medicinal plants and a variety of hand-made crafts and other products direct from the growers and producers. We work to give back to the communities with which we trade, bringing economic opportunities to some of the poorest areas in the world.

Our wild harvested maca is from KALLAWAYA DIRECT and is certified wild-harvested, the only maca that is used and endorsed by the Kallawaya Indians, an ethnic group recognized in 2003 by UNESCO for their documented use of natural products, including maca, for health, healing and vitality.
We work only with the most renowned specialists the glove, such as the Kallawayas, who are considered among the most revered natural healers in the world. For hundreds of years, these legendary practitioners of natural medicine, often called "itinerant doctors" in their native language, Aymara, have been traveling around the South American continent to collect the rarest medicinal plants, of which only they know the medicinal properties, and in their travels they are caring for the most diverse conditions.
It has taken years of relationship-building and careful, collaboration to become accepted by these ethnic groups, who have rare products they do not wish to share with just anyone. Our methods are fair trade practices, good for the planet, good for the growers and good for you, the customer. The Bolivian Institute of Traditional Kallawaya Medicine (INBOMETRAKA), is the official organization created and endorsed by the Kallawaya Indian healers to disseminate accurate information about their ancestral healing practices to the world at large. INBOMETRAKA also acts as the disciplinary and Advisory entity for the Kallawayas, who are constantly being assailed by legions of false healers and others who would profit by wrongly using the Kallawaya name and reputation. We are particularly proud of the fact that we are the only providers who have been approved by the highest dignitary within this Institute, Walter Alvarez Quispe, a leading Kallawaya surgeon and doctor, who has recognized the excellent quality of our PACHACUTEC maca – certified wild harvested and from virgin soil – as well as our efforts to obtain universal recognition of the valuable knowledge passed on by the Kallawayas and their necessary role in maintaining the harmony of our planet.

OUR WORK ETHIC: «The realities of Sharing and Generosity»

In order to ensure that our products are of the highest quality possible, KALLAWAYA DIRECT (KD) buys the product from families that it has identified and partnered with following numerous on-site visits and meetings. This team also ensures that our maca is certifiably wild-harvested, from soils proven to be virgin through the production of notarized certificates of origin. In the next phase, Kallawaya Direct associates the selected producers with the business by giving them shares in the venture, at a level of 10% - 12% of the profits made on the sale of their products. In this way, we create strong links with our producers, who receive equipment for sustainable energy (solar panels, mini wind-turbines), dry toilets, assistance with school fees for their children, and other necessities. Our goal is to nourish and sustain long-term relationships and to support development projects that will have a lasting impact on the communities by enabling small businesses, and ensuring employment in areas that otherwise might be subject to de-population due to poverty.
We also invest a portion of our profits in INBOMETRAKA, to help this Institute develop its activities and reach.
